Abernethy Barcaple is currently seeking an Outdoor Instructor to join its team in Castle Douglas, Scotland. This full-time role offers the opportunity to lead outdoor adventure activities, support educational programmes, and contribute to a vibrant Christian community while working in one of the most scenic regions of the country.

Responsibilities

• Keep up to date with current developments in outdoor education and maintain links with relevant professional bodies.

• Recommend suitable outdoor activity equipment purchases or replacements. Once these recommendations are approved by the Chief Instructor, place orders within the agreed budget.

• Supervise and assist with the maintenance of outdoor education equipment and help manage the equipment inventory.

• Ensure that logbooks are kept up to date by instructors and maintain your own record of current experience and competence in outdoor activities.

• Make sure activity programmes operate with the correct and safe procedures at all times.

• Contribute to the development of programmes offered by the Centre, including the John Muir Award and Duke of Edinburgh programmes.

• Support the Chief Instructor with administrative tasks that are important for the smooth running of the department.

• Deliver instruction and guidance to resident groups during their activity programmes.

• Support the Chief Instructor and step in to deputise for them when they are absent.
